As well as being my oldest boy’s middle name, a gift from his grandfather, the word ‘Hunter’ is synonymous with great Australian wines. In 1921, Maurice O’Shea planted his Mount Pleasant property in the Hunter Valley and started making wines focused on elegance and balance rather than just sheer Aussie grunt. These wines went on to define the region, with one of his most famous an out-of-the-box Shiraz/Pinot Noir blend. One Off The Syrah Hunter celebrates Maurice and the big idea that 2+2=6.
Aromas of currant and violet, with a palate layered with earth, smoke and hints of star anise and clove. Dark and moody, fireside supping at its best!
