The world-beater. This is the story of how a little-known Syrah from the New World put on its grown-up pants and took on the globe…including the French…at the red wine game.
Long before our Trademark 2015 Syrah won big (4 trophies) last year at the uber-prestigious International Wine Challenge (IWC) in London, the Quarter Acre 2015 Syrah won even bigger! In 2017 it too won 4 IWC trophies, and promptly sold out shortly after the announcement, but it then went on to win Best Red Wine in Show (aka THE WORLD) announced at the gala dinner in London. Rod was there to accept in his best bib and tucker.
There were over 15,000 red wines from around the world entered into that show. Let’s let that sink in for a sec.
“This has some lovely floral notes to it, violets and blueberries, but with an earthiness that gives you a sense the flavours are going to be more interesting than just fruit. And they are: more savoury and complex, all layered together in a fleshy, rounded medium-weight palate with fine tannins and long, long finish. It’s a wine that’s nowhere near halfway through its life and can be cellared if you like, but it’s nicely relaxed and ready to be enjoyed if you’re a drink now kinda enthusiast.” RM.
