Quarter Acre
2019 Syrah

Following on from its world-beating older sibling from 2015  (won the trophy at London’s International Wine Competition for Best Red Wine of Show), and the super snappy sell out of previous vintages, here’s the latest Syrah on the Quarter Acre block, the 2019.

Handpicked fruit from our hillside vineyards, the 2019 season was hot and dry with a settled autumn.  The yields were kept low to maximise colour and intensity and come from MS, 470 and Limmer clones of Syrah that each offer a unique expression.  Aged in French oak barriques through winter before malo in spring, rested and then blended on 9th October 2020.

Aromas of rich Black Doris plum, violet, fragrant spice and bramble, the palate is complex and textural with earthy flavours of black cherry, cocoa and tobacco. Underlying power and precision – it’s one smooth cat that will serve you well!

The Word.

  • Rebecca Gibb MW, 93 points.
  • Michael Cooper, 4.5 stars.  “A very harmonious wine with obvious potential, it’s well-worth cellaring to 2023+.”
  • Bob Campbell MW, 93 points.  “Attractively aromatic Syrah with ripe berry, black pepper, violet and spicy oak flavours…surprisingly accessible now but should mellow nicely in the medium-term.”
