Trademark Chardonnay 2019
Chardonnay with a capital ‘C’! Only the 3rd iteration of this flagship Chardonnay, James Suckling gave the 2018 vintage 95/100 points + Robert Parker 94/100.
Fruit was hand harvested from this 26 year old vineyard planted at the base of Te Mata peak in Havelock North. The grapes had a lovely balance of acidity and an average of 22.5 brix produced a seamless palate with citrus, peach and ginger flavours.
The nose is flinty with lemon, grapefruit, stone-fruit and a nougat layered lees influence. The palate is initially tight with some phenolic grip but unfolds with time in the glass and blends with the developing complex flavours. The finish is long and persistent. Just how we love our Chardonnay!
Enjoy now or cellar for another 6-8 years.

The Word.
- 95/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review.
“…Big, mellow wine with a silken texture—it reminds me of chardonnay from California’s Napa Valley. White peach, citrus, sizzled butter, spicy oak and a touch of oyster shell/mineral characters. Stylish chardonnay.”
- 95/100, NZ Wine Rater.
“Distinctively golden straw in hue. An intense, powerful, opulent, premium, winemaker-influenced wine on the nose with rich, nutty, yeast lees influence evidenced by aromas of butterscotch, toasted sourdough and hazelnuts to compliment ripe peach and melon fruit characters. A rich, concentrated, full-bodied style with layers of complexity and a long saline finish. A statement wine with impressive impact.”
- 94/100, Winefolio.
“…The wine is a real bloomer in the glass– a texture emerges that is is plush, deep and silky, sitting under these layers and, in contrast to the opening, leading to a sustained, opulent finish. Good stuff.”
- 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit.
“Wonderfully composed and elegantly poised, this stunning chardonnay shows white flesh stone fruit, lemon peel, subtle vanilla, brioche and cedar characters with a hint of flinty nuance….”
- Gold, New Zealand International Wine Show 2023.
